HOW TO AVOID COMMON SHAVING MISTAKES

How To Avoid Common Shaving Mistakes

Irritated skin, nicks, razor burn and cuts are some of the most common shaving complaints that gentleman get whilst shaving. See below our tips and tricks how to avoid those common issues.

  1. Nicks and cuts
  • They are easily done while shaving so we would recommend rinsing your skin thoroughly with cool water after the shave and using an aftershave balm to soothe and cleanse the skin.
  • Check your skin for any lumps and bumps that you may need to go around while shaving.
  • The razor can become clogged with hair and cream if you do long and quick passes, this will cause the razor to skip and cut the skin. Take your time and rinse your razor after every few strokes to stop the razor from becoming clogged.
  1. Skin irritation and razor burn
  • No preparation can cause the razor to tug. We recommend preparing the skin using a hot towel which will soften the hairs and lubricate the skin. Always use cool water after your shave to clean the skin and follow up with aftershave balm.
  • If you apply to much pressure to your skin it will cause a more aggressive shave. Use light strokes going in the direction of the hair growth.
  • Using a brush to lather and apply your shaving cream will help the hairs stand on end and it will be easier to shave. If you have sensitive skin, try a sensitive shaving cream and after balm which will not be as harsh and will help soothe the skin.
  • Moisturise the face and neck everyday to soften the skin and keep hydrated. We also recommend exfoliating 3 times a week to remove the barrier of dead skin cells to keep your skin looking healthy and fresh.
  1. Not a close enough shave
  • Shaving takes practice and we can’t stress enough that preparation is key for the best wet shaving experience. Use a hot towel, pre-shaving oil and shaving cream to help lubricate the skin. If the hairs are lifted then you should get a closer shave.
  • Try to do two passes of the shave. Always go with the direction of the hair for the first shave and then you can reapply a hot towel and shaving cream for the second pass. This will help you check that there are no loose hairs left and ensure a closer shave.
  • You may need to change your razor blade after the first pass as the blade may have become blunt.
