A survey last year showed there are a growing number of female barbers across the UK, as the industry finally sheds its ‘male only’ tag. About 44 percent of barbers are now women, up from around 10% in 2015!
The definition of barber is, generally, someone who specialises in cutting and styling men’s hair and often is also trained to do facial shaves and facial hair grooming. You don’t have to be a man to do men’s hair well, just like you don’t have to be a woman to do women’s hair well.
Female barbers have a finer eye for detail and a softer touch, which is convenient when a barber has a cut-throat razor in their hand! I can’t speak for every female barber, but like me, a lot started their career in hairdressing. With the background knowledge, ability to pamper without emasculation and a smooth and steady hand, you will be relaxing in no time whilst being charmed by her female ways. I have worked alongside some of the very best barbers out there and the female barbering industry is strong. They have learned the tricks of the trade and you will leave feeling your best!
